My classroom library helps support the diverse interests and reading levels of my students. Books are organized by guided reading levels/Lexile reading levels and also by genre. For struggling readers, reading interesting and at level text is key to students progressing towards proficiency.
Below are some examples of materials I use with 5th grade Title I Reading students. Lessons are developed to meet the individual needs of students using data from Fast tests, MAPS, and Iowa Assessments. Classroom teachers also provide feedback on skills needed for further instruction.
Here are materials used in Reading Recovery lessons. Each lesson is designed to evaluate where the learner is and scaffold he/she to the next level of understanding.
I have helped to implement an at-home system to allow parents to help their child more at home to help make a better school-home connection. Students receive additional practice materials, directions and a daily calendar to take home to work on and then return to school. Parents are then able to directly support their child with additional skill practice from the Title I teachers. Many parents have been more successful in supporting their child this year using this system.
